Internship Here I Come

Well with it being 2 weeks away from internship, I can say that I'm ready for whatever they throw at me. I have been working hard for 5months to prepare for this moment. My skills of both technology and public speaking will be put to the ultimate test now. I have progressed in my public speaking skills by doing PowerPoint presentations and writing professional emails to both my colleagues and instructors. I am hoping that the work environment I work in will be around people who love to do the same thing I do, meaning talk about technology and new games coming out. I believe I'm going to the company CyberAgent which is similar to Zynga, but Japanese based. They work on Mac computers to develop their apps, and since I just bought my new MacBook I believe I'm ready for it. I hope the manager I get will take it slow with the work for the first week, so I can get a feel for my environment and meet my co-workers. I still have to do a little work on my professionalism, but I believe I have everything I need to succeed. After internship I'm hoping and praying that they will contract me, then hire me full-time and I will also be attending college full time to get my Associates Degree.

Journal Entry Jan. 2

It's January 2 of 2012 and it was a fun day. I sat down with my girlfriend and watched some Star Wars on Blu-ray and went then bowling with the family. We played two games and I came in second both times. In the second game though I only lost by 1 point, which the score was 101-100. I'm on my way back home to San Francisco now and checking on my Fantasy Basketball team that Damian got me into, I won against his team in the past week so now I have to see how this week will be. I'll see everyone tomorrow at 8:30, so until then I AM OUT OF HERE.

Journal Entry Dec. 31-Jan. 1, 2012

I haven't fully celebrated New Years Eve since my Aunty passed away around the new millennium. I've been sick on New Years Eve and last year I broke my hand on New Years Eve. This year I'm in Oakland with my girlfriend and her family again at her cousins hair shop. Our original plan was to go to Six Flags, but I don't know what we are going to do now. So far we're going to chill at the hair shop, eat, and just have fun. Next year it will be different though, she's coming to my family event.

Journal Entry for Dec. 24

Normally on Christmas Eve I don't do anything but prepare for the next day. Since my mom lives in Texas I didn't do my normal tradition. This year for Christmas Eve I went to The City with my girlfriend and visited her family and went with their tradition. They have a long story behind their tradition but long story short they buy Christmas gifts for the grandchildren. My family doesn't do this, we would pick out of a hat on who we would buy gifts for. It was exciting this year, because even I received gifts from her family. Her family didn't know what to expect.

Ready, Set, Intern

The qualities of being internship ready are knowing the material (IT, QA), background of company, use of grammar, and being a product of your environment. How I plan to demonstrate my internship readiness in module 3, is to read over my book as much as I can, such as the chapters by chapter, ask questions at the appropriate time like asking two other people and reading the book before asking my manager. I will change nothing in my energy, because I'm always able to be ready for the work. My attitude will also be the same, because I'm always positive with my work and if something goes wrong I can stay calm because I know what I did was my fault.

Help Wanted

The only job that I have actually had that was with pay was when I was working for UPS as a seasonal driver helper. A driver helper is an assistant who helps the driver deliver packages on routes during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. The best part about the job was that I didn’t have to drive the vehicle, I got overtime pay on some days, and I received a workout experience while on the job. The worst part about the job was that on some days we had to drive to a person’s house multiple times, and they were not there for three days in a row. Another bad part about the job was when people left their dogs outside, so because of that they wouldn’t get their packages until they locked up the dog. Besides this job I have done volunteer work at a Convalescent Hospital and also a child Day Care Center. The worst part about the Hospital was that all I did was serve people their food and called for other people when an emergency came up. The only good part was when me and a patient would sit down and watch a trove of movies, such as Star Wars and we would also play chess. Volunteering at the child day care was only fun because I was with my little sister and I was watching her play with the other children. My only concern about this volunteer work, was that the supervisor only wanted me to stay in the class where my sister was at, which I didn’t like because I didn’t want them to think that since I’m there they don’t have to watch her. Overall I would have to say that each of these roles has put experience on my resume, but I need more experience.

New Bay Bridge Span

As you may have seen, the Bay Bridge span on the side of the original is nearly complete. With plans being made to have the new span finished by 2013 the old Bay Bridge will be shutting down once the new span has opened and a steady traffic flow is seen. The old bridge will not be blown to pieces but will be dismantled at not either end of the span, but with the cantilever section because it sits in the way of both the bicycle path and a new eastbound on-ramp from Treasure Island. The entire project is expected to cost $239 million and should be finished in two years. My personal reaction to this is that if possible they should have both bridges opened so it can ease the flow of traffic. Plus the old bridge is historical to the Bay Area. I believe it can be repaired in some kind of way.
